LYNCHBURG, Va. - Junior defender
Jackson Wolf netted the lone goal of the match in the 61st minute to give the Dickinson men's soccer team the 1-0 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Shellenberger Field on the campus of the University of Lynchburg.
- Dickinson would record the first two chances of the game inside the opening ten minutes with both coming from Ethan Jarden, but neither tested Jordon Eckman in the St. Mary's net.
- The Devils defense did not allow the Seahawks to put any kind of offensive plan together early as they did not tally a shot until the 21:18 mark when Tyler Foti missed to the right of Aidan George.
- Off a corner the Red and White tried to cash in through Saul Iwowo who fired wide, before Eckman had to deny Nicholas Dwamena to keep things scoreless with less than ten minutes left.
- In the 39th minute St. Mary's worked their way into the offensive half leading to a blast for Braden Kindred who sent it wide left.
- Parker Kiey and Connor Uitterdijk each let a shot go prior to the break forcing Eckman into one more save.
- Zack Reed would go between the pipes for the Seahawks to begin the frame.
- Both he and George would be called upon early as Reed beat away a chance for Westin Fryberger, while George shutdown the trio of Zach Blaum, Lucas Evans and Jack Nelson.Â
- After Abdoul Anounkou missed wide left, the Devils would find the breakthrough as Jeremy Sallade played in a free kick to the head of Alex Spiegel who flicked the ball to Jarden who steered it off his head to Wolf who slipped the ball just beyond the reach of Reed for the 1-0 lead at the 60:16 mark.
- Over the next three minutes Alex Ochman was unable to deliver the equalizer, while Fryberger could not extend the advantage.
- George had to come up big one more time in the 78th minute stoning Evans to hold onto the 1-0 edge.
- Dickinson tried to put the match away from there, but Timi Omoniwa, Dwamena and Iwowo did not test Reed as the horn sounded.
