CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Thanks to double-digit scoring totals from
Anthony Goeb,
David Petrusev and
Randy Shephard along with a season-best 58.1% (25-43) shooting from the floor, the Dickinson men's basketball team continued to give their slim playoff hopes a lifeline with a comfortable 67-44 Centennial Conference win over the the host Washington College inside of Fall Gymnasium.
The game could not have started any better for the Devils as two triples from
Matt Mahoney and a jumper by Goeb opened up an 8-0 lead at the five minute mark. After Kedrick Frink put the home side on the board, Shephard notched five straight and
Andrew Gostovich chipped in a layup off a feed from
Nate Ogbu to stretch the margin to 15-2 at the halfway point of the period. Four different Shoremen attempted to bring the home side back into the game with a 9-4 run as
Tyler Lawrence and Shephard tallied for the Red and White to leave it at 19-11 at the 15:49 mark. The Devils would collect the remaining six points of the half with long-range shots by Mahoney and Ogbu to take a 25-11 lead into the break.Â
Frink began the second-half with an "old-fashioned" three-point play, before
Isaiah Edmond, Goeb, Ogbu and Shephard opened the margin up to 33-17 with five minutes gone. Over the ensuing five minute segment Sam Corrao and Zack Skrocki hit from deep for the hosts, but two buckets by Ogbu and Petrusev left it at 39-23. After Marcus Scott Jr. and Goeb traded two free throws each, the Devil duo of Goeb and Gostovich claimed six of the next eight points to blow the lead up to nearly 20 (47-29) inside seven minutes remaining. Two points each from Precieux Tshibangu and Frink stopped the DC charge for a moment, but then a dunk by Ogbu along eight from Petrusev culminating in a triple made it 59-39 with a little more than two minutes left. Dickinson continued to add onto their advantage the remainder of the game as a dunk thrown down by Goeb sparked an 8-2 run with buckets coming from
B.J. McNeil, Goeb and Shephard to push it out to 67-41. Jason Zielinski would beat the buzzer from deep to set the 67-44 result. Â
