SPARKS, Md. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team will enter Centennial Conference action this weekend on quite the high note as the Red and White secured their fourth consecutive win by knocking off Washington & Jefferson College 14-7 on a fridgid Monday night at Tierney Field at the USA Lacrosse Complex.
Each team had some early looks at cage as
Emma Wynne was turned aside by Kaitlyn Brown and
Bella Guckes rang the post, while at the other end Aisa Uhler missed over the top of the cage patrolled by
Peyton VanDorpe. Dickinson then struck with 3:48 gone when
Delaney Herbert setup Abby Gear for the tally, before
Liz Barroll hit Herbert with a nice dish making it 2-0 with just over nine minutes remaining. The Devils continued to fire away as Herbert went wide twice and Wynne banged the second post of the game. However, the DC offense would not be denied as
Syd MacKeigan assisted
Jenna Nowland (3-0). The Red and White then collected the unusual own goal as a W&J defender trying to secure the loose ball after a stop by Brown on Herbert scooped the ball right back through the keeper's legs stretching it out to 4-0. After the Presidents won the ensuing draw and got a marker from Uhler, Dickinson just kept on coming recording three more shots resulting in one more goal by
Bella Guckes to take a 5-1 lead to the second.
It took Dickinson just 54-seconds to extend the gap out to 6-1 as
Caroline Pirone claimed the opening draw and got it up to Herbert who fed the rock to Guckes for the tally. Over the next five minutes the two sides would combine for three shots with Barroll being stopped by Brown and Herbert pinging the crossbar. However, after Anna Kloehn gave the ball away the Devils made it 7-1 at the halfway point of the frame thanks to Herbert (Guckes assist). The Presidents tried to chip away as Caleigh Bogots trimmed it down to 7-2, the Red and White ended the quarter on a two-goal run thanks to markers from Herbert and Geary both arranged by Barroll taking a commanding 9-2 lead into the half.
Coming out of the rest the Devils appeared to pickup right where they left off as Wynne dropped the rock in Herbert's stick for the finish, but Emily Heck answered right back bringing it to 10-3 not even two minutes into the third. Brown would continue to try and keep her team in it by stoning the trio of Geary, Guckes and Wynne. However, after
Mia Seergae knocked the ball free from Sammy Hartz, Herbert collected the rock and cashed in for an 11-3 advantage with 6:17 left. The Red and White would bag two more goals prior to the end of the period as
Izzy Hall forced a pair of turnovers resulting in goals by Barroll and Wynne to lead by ten (13-3) entering the fourth.
Sierra McLaughlin went between the pipes for VanDorpe to kickoff the fourth period and was called upon three minutes in knocking aside a chance from Bogats. The Presidents finally got back on the board for the first time since early in the third when Sofia Jenkins and Uhler scored within a minute of each other pulling to within 13-5 inside the ten minute mark. Following a caused turnover by Geary she went off to the races downfield hitting Wynne in stride who ripped a shot beyond the reach of Brown to grab a 14-5 advantage. Bogats and Heck each netted one more to make it 14-7, before McLaughlin slammed the door shut on the game by stopping Kloehn right before the final horn.
