HAVERFORD, Pa. – The sixth-seeded Dickinson women's lacrosse team saw their solid season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon with a 17-4 loss to the third-seeded and the 23rd-ranked Haverford College in the Centennial Conference Tournament First Round at Swan Field.
Dickinson had a couple of early chances as both
Sage Whiteside and
Emma Wynne were turned away by Lizzie Symonds. That allowed the home side to pick up a pair of goals each from Brooke Epstein and Ellie Hughes to make it 4-0 with 6:50 left prompting a Dickinson timeout. Coming out of the break the Devils applied pressure with
Jenna Nowland asking a question of Symonds, but once again she was up to the task. On the ensuing Fords possession,
Peyton VanDorpe picked off a Daniela Martini pass which resulted in Wynne finding
Liz Barroll for the finish. Each team would tally one more shot over the final two minutes with Symonds shutting down
Faith Parker, while Kylie McNamara put the ball behind VanDorpe for the 5-1 edge through one.
Things started well in the second for the Red and White as just 38-seconds in
Abby Geary hit Wynne with a pass for the goal cutting it to 5-2. Unfortunately, coming off a stop by VanDorpe on Tiffany Mikulis the Fords responded with two quick tallies from Epstein and Hughes for a 7-2 advantage with just about three minutes gone. The visitors would get three of the next four shots with Geary stuffing one past Symonds off a missed chance for
Crawford Fisher. Following another Symonds stop this time on
Delaney Herbert, the home side came back with the next three shots ultimately resulting in Louisa Coughlin extending the gap back to five (8-3) with just under three minutes to go. Dickinson would try their best to cut into the lead prior to the break, but Symonds was there to deny Herbert, Parker and Whiteside to hold the score where it was at the break.
Wynne came out of the break determined to find the net as she recorded three straight shots leading to one goal. However, less than a minute later McNamara cashed in to make it 9-4 with 1:29 gone followed immediately by Hughes burying a free-position marker. Haverford continued to add onto their lead with McNamara striking twice and Jodan Denaver scoring as well for the 12-4 lead with less than six minutes remaining. Dickinson kept on trying to attack with Herbert being stopped by Symonds as well as ringing one off the pipe, while Parker missed the target with her opportunity. At the other end of the field, the Fords added two more to hold a 14-4 advantage into the fourth.
Turnovers forced by Herbert and Whiteside inside the opening three minutes led to a trio of Dickinson chances coming from Barroll, Geary and Herbert however Symonds had the answer for all of them. A stop for Symonds on
Syd MacKeigan and denial of Epstein by VanDorpe was the final action for both starters on the day as Annie Bravacos and
Ella Marks took over in cage for their respective sides. Marks would be tested almost immediately with a long-range bouncer from Kylie Kearon to stretch the margin to 15-4. Herbert then tried her luck with the new goalie, but Bravacos was there to keep her out. Haverford added two more late in the frame to set the 17-4 final. Â Â

Next on the Turf
Dickinson (10-7) most likely will see their season come to an end and will have to begin looking forward to the 2025 season. However, with some solid wins during the course of the year the Red and White are currently sixth in the NCAA Regional rankings and have a lot to build on.
