Devils Split Odd CC Tri-Match With Garnet and Owls

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's volleyball team kicked off Centennial Conference action on Saturday afternoon with a unique tri-match. First the Red and White dropped a 3-0 decision to Swarthmore College, before driving ten miles north to Bryn Mawr College and toppling the Owls 3-0.

Match One - Garnet 3, DEVILS 0 (15-25, 21-25, 17-25)
Template - 1st Set
  • Jessica Currie and Amelia Kim provided the early offense for the Devils, but they found themselves behind 8-4.
  • Two scores for Mallie Thomas and a solo by Avery Butcher helped the road side chip the deficit down to just one 10-9.
  • A pair of Kim kills and a Swarthmore mishit were the only DC points during a 8-3 Garnet run to make it 18-12.
  • Combination blocks between Eliette Whittaker and Cassidy Davis along with Kim and Whittaker brought it to 18-15, but the hosts would rip off seven straight to grab the set (25-15).

  • Kills by Emery Fishbach, Kate Passey, Butcher and Currie had DC within 7-5 early in the frame.
  • Following a score for Alexia Enache, Alexa Barowski and Thomas pulled the guests level at 8-8.
  • However, Kim, Passey and Thomas were the only points for the Red and White during a 10-4 spurt for the Garnet to make it 18-12.
  • The Devils did not go away though with Barowski, Butcher, Passey and Thomas all recording points to trim the gap down to just one 22-21.
  • Unfortunately, two DC errors and a kill for Isabel Adam capped off the 25-21 win.

  • Kim, Passey and Whittaker kept the Devils close early as they trailed 6-5.
  • Hannah Humphreys, Emily Sun, Adam and Enache answered back in a big way with a 14-4 run to take a 20-9 advantage.
  • Camille Dofiles, Currie, Kim and Thomas brought DC within 24-17, but Humphreys put down the ensuing point for the match (25-17).

Match Two - DEVILS 3, Owls 0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-20)

  • Things couldn't have started much better for the Owls as they stormed out to a 14-4 advantage.
  • Then Dickinson flipped the script with Grace Coccagna, Avery Lewis, Currie, Dofiles, Kim and Thomas embarking on a phenomenal 20-3 run to take the 24-17 lead.
  • After a mishit from DC gave the home team another point, a service error by Elise Perry gave the Red and White the set 25-18.
Template - 2nd Set
  • This time it was the Devils who started quick with kills for Barowski, Currie, Lewis, Palmer and Thomas making it 11-5.
  • A pair of Zara Kepler scores helped the Owls to battle back to within 15-12.
  • Kills sent home by Currie, Palmer, Thomas and Whittaker coupled with a combination block between Barowski and Thomas allowed the Red and White to end on a 10-3 outburst for the 25-15 victory.

  • Bryn Mawr took two of the first three points, but Barowski, Currie, Kim, Thomas and Whittaker answered back to give the Red and White the 11-4 edge.
  • The two sides shared the next eight points with two Kim kills and an ace for Dofiles accounting for the DC scores (15-8).
  • Aubry and Kepler kept the Owls fighting on as they cut the deficit down to 19-14.
  • After a DC point, scores for Adelaide Grace and Tula Reihman made it 20-17.
  • However, the duo of Kim and Whittaker made sure the home team got no closer as they finished off the 25-20 win.
