CARLISLE, Pa.. - The Dickinson women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in Centennial Conference play on Saturday afternoon by holding off a strong late push from the visiting Swarthmore College Garnet to win 55-47 inside the Kline Center. The Red and White were led on the day by
Clair Marion who dropped 21 points.
- It took over two minutes to find the first points of the day thanks to Alyssa Hayashi.
- The trio of Caitlin Blackman, Ella Smith and Jenna Weinstein then went on a 9-0 push to grab a 9-2 edge with 3:28 left.
- Carly Murphy and Hayashi surrounded a Marion triple to leave DC in front 12-7 after one.
- A tipin by Smith, followed by a Marion trey made it 17-7, but Anna Hansson and Hayashi answered back trimming the gap to 17-11 at the halfway point.
- Clare Cronley and Blackman accounted for four of the final six points of the frame to give the Devils a 21-13 halftime edge.
- The Garnet came out strong using a 7-3 sprint to close within 24-20 on a bucket by Lillian Czub at the 2:37 mark.
- Marion collected the next six Dickinson points, before Emma Landes finished off a feed from Marion to make it 32-24 (3:20).
- Norah Wingfield and Hayashi tallied three straight, but Marion, Smith and Weinstein closed the period scoring six of the last eight to take a 38-29 lead to the fourth.
- For the second straight quarter the visitors had the fast start as Elisa Fiore and Hansson scored the first four points.
- However, Victoria Zerbe, Blackman, Marion and Smith answered with an 11-2 outburst to blow the advantage out to 49-35 with 5:20 to play.
- Swarthmore pushed back with five points from Vanessa Amsinger keying a 11-3 run of their own to close within 52-46 with less than 90-seconds left.
- A triple from Cronley squashed any hope for SC as the Devils saw out the 55-47 win.
