Tough Second Half Does Devils in Against Bullets

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team put three players in double-digits, but were unable to hold onto a slim 32-29 halftime lead as the visiting Gettysburg College outscored the Red and White 41-26 over the final 20 minutes to secure a 70-58 conference win inside the Kline Center.

Template - 1st Half
  • Things began well for the hosts as layups for Joey Dopirak and Juan Ruiz, coupled with three foul shot from Brandon Wiercinski made it 7-2 with 3:42 gone.
  • After Carl Schaller and Dopirak traded triples, the Bullets embarked on an 8-2 push to take a 13-12 edge at the 8:18 mark.
  • A pull-up jumper by Andrew Cerullo put DC back on top 14-13, but the guests answered with a 9-3 charge reclaiming their advantage at 22-17 inside of seven minutes left.
  • The combo of Bryce Donovan and Ruiz trimmed the margin to 24-21, before buckets from Jordan Stafford and Nate Williams kept the Bullets ahead at 29-25 with just over a minute remaining.
  • However, Ryan Leskauskas ended the half on a "heater" scoring the final seven points to grab a 32-29 halftime advantage.
Template - 2nd Half
  • Dickinson used the first three-plus minutes of the period to extend their lead to six (39-33) on buckets from Cole Cosby, Leskauskas and Ruiz.
  • The Bullets then erupted from deep hitting four triples during a 19-5 run to jump ahead 52-44 with just over ten minutes to play.
  • A layup for Leskauskas stalled the charge for a second, but then the well went dry for DC over the next five-plus minutes as the guests tallied the ensuing six points to stretch the lead to 58-46.
  • The trio of Dopirak, Leskauskas and Ruiz did their best to keep the Red and White afloat, unfortunately, the Bullets were able to hold the home side at bay as they sealed up the 70-58 win.
