Devils Drop Second Straight With Road Defeat to Diplomats

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team got double-digits from three players and held the lead for a good portion of the game on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the host Franklin & Marshall College used a 12-2 run that spanned the end of the third and the early part of the fourth to capture a 57-50 conference win inside the Mayser Center.

Template - 1st Quarter
  • The teams spent the opening three minutes trading the first eight points of the game as buckets for Mia Chapman and Victoria Zerbe had the game knotted at 4-4.
  • A triple by Caitlin Blackman along with a foul shot from Zerbe made it 8-4, but baskets for Ally Trebelev and Kennedy Wilburn sent the hosts ahead 9-8 with 7:30 gone.
  • Five straight by Chapman helped the Devils end on a 5-1 push to jump ahead 13-10 after one.
Template - 2nd Quarter
  • The well was dry for both sides during the first three minutes until Wilburn finished at the rim (13-12).
  • After another Wilburn basket made it 14-13 home team, Clair Marion, Jenna Weinstein and Blackman went on an 8-0 gallop to take a 21-14 advantage with less than four minutes left.
  • The DC trio of Ella Smith, Blackman and Zerbe continued to hold the Diplomats at-bay the remainder of the period as the game went to the half with the Red and White up by four (27-23).
Template - 3rd Quarter
  • A pair of Weinstein free throws made it 29-23 just 90-seconds in, but five straight for the hosts cut the deficit down to just one at 29-28 at the 3:20 mark.
  • Following two foul shots each by Clare Cronley and Lizzie Neville, a three ball out of the hands of Marion helped DC to establish a 34-32 advantage with less than four minutes to play.
  • However, the home side would head into the fourth up by four (40-36) thanks to an 8-2 run with contributions coming from Molly Flanagan, Neville and Trebelev.
Template - 4th Quarter
  • Jumpers by Quinn Galligan and Neville kickstarted the period for F&M and extended their margin to 44-36 with just over a minute off the clock.
  • A three-ball for Weinstein stalled the charge and hoped to get the Red and White going, but instead it was the Diplomats who responded with ten of the next dozen taking a 54-41 lead under five minutes left.
  • Dickinson would give themselves some late hope with a 9-0 spurt in just over a minute span as buckets for Chapman, Marion and Weinstein made it 54-50 with 1:14 to play.
  • Unfortunately, from there it was all F&M as the Red and White had two players foul out and missed their final two shots as the Diplomats finished off the 57-50 win.
