Devils Mount Rally, but Fall to #22 Blue Jays in Overtime

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team outscored the visiting 22nd-ranked Johns Hopkins University 17-7 over the third quarter to erase 33-22 halftime deficit and ultimately force overtime. However, the Blue Jays would outpace the Red and White 10-3 over the extra frame to nab a 60-53 Centennial Conference win at the Kline Center on Wednesday night..

Template - 1st Quarter
  • The two sides traded buckets early as a layup for Victoria Zerbe and three-ball from Jenna Weinstein made it 5-4 DC just 2:20 in.
  • Layups by Macie Feldman, Layla Henderson and Grace Soltes allowed the Jays to take the 10-5 edge at the halfway point of the period.
  • Five straight from Clair Marion knotted things up, but JHU ended on a 6-0 push to lead 16-10 after one.
Template - 2nd Quarter
  • Following a giveaway by Jadyn Murray, Emma Landes was able to find Caitlin Blackman for a triple and the opening points.
  • A bucket for Weinstein was the only points for the Red and White during a 13-2 run by Hopkins as a foul shot by Henderson made it 29-15 with exactly four minutes to play.
  • Seven of the next nine points went to the Devils as jumpers for Molly Heron and Weinstein coupled with a triple out of the hands of Clare Cronley trimmed the gap to 31-22, before Feldman beat the buzzer to take a 33-22 advantage into the locker room.
Template - 3rd Quarter
  • Dickinson used the opening five minutes to get right back in the game as the duo of Marion and Zerbe put together a 9-1 push to get within 34-31 with just over five minutes gone.
  • A Beth Corelli basket slowed the run down, but then three points each for Cronley and Marion brought the Devils ahead finally at 37-36 with 3:13 left.
  • Jumpers by Greta Miller and Soltes made it 40-37 Jays, before Blackman picked up the final bucket of the quarter to leave it 40-39 with 30 minutes in the books.
Template - 4th Quarter
  • After Marion setup Zerbe to give DC the lead back (41-40), the pair of Michaela O'Neil and Feldman tallied the next six edging JHU ahead 46-41 at the 6:10 mark.
  • Buckets from Blackman and Weinstein cut the deficit down to 48-45, but a tipin for O'Neil off a miss by Feldman had the guests up by five (50-45) with just over a minute left.
  • Dickinson did not go down quietly as Weinstein scored in the paint, before stepping outside the arc to hit from deep to knot the contest up at 50-50.
  • Each team would have one last chance to find some points. However, Feldman was blocked by Weinstein which then set the stage for O'Neil to turn away Blackman at the horn.
  • Two early DC turnovers and a layup missed on both sides held the score at 50-50 with two minutes off the clock.
  • Marion and Miller would each go one-of-two at the charity line to keep things locked up, but then a layup by O'Neil kickstarted a 9-2 Blue Jays flight to finish off the 60-53 win.
