Marion Breaks Three-Point Record as Devils Blaze Their Own Trail Against Blazers

FREDERICK, Md. - The Dickinson women's basketball team turned around a 13-12 first quarter deficit into a 33-21 halftime lead and never looked back as duo of Mia Chapman and Clair Marion combined for 29 points en route to a 59-43 win in the non-conference finale over Hood College at Woodsboro Bank Arena. Marion's record-breaking moment came with 1:48 left in the second period when she collected her 170 three-pointer made of her Dickinson career to eclipse the former mark of 169 set by Helen Roberts who played for the Red and White from 2013-2017.

  • After each team missed their opening shot, the home side grabbed the first point on a free throw by Chanelle Lee which was immediately answered with a hook for Mia Chapman.
  • The two sides exchanged the ensuing dozen points as Clare Cronley, Ella Smith, Jenna Weinstein and Chapman tallied for the visitors to take an 10-9 edge with under four minutes to play.
  • Buckets from Maya Gordon and Kourtney Johnson gave the home side a 12-10 edge, but a mid-range jumper for Caitlin Blackman off a Chapman handoff knotted things back up.
  • Johnson would split a pair on the line with a second left to go ahead 13-12 through ten minutes.

  • The Devils opened up on fire as baskets inside for both Blackman and Chapman followed by a triple out of the hands of Clair Marion sparked a 9-0 run over the first three minutes to take a 21-13 lead.
  • After missing their first eight shots of the period, Johnson finally finished in the paint with 5:34 gone to leave DC in front 23-15.
  • The points then started flowing in for both teams as they combined to make six of the next eight shots with points from Molly Heron, Lizzie McGrath and Marion putting the Red and White ahead by ten at 31-21 inside the last minute.
  • Weinstein would add two more on the charity stripe with just seconds left to take a 33-21 lead to the break.

  • Following a layup by Amari Faust, Emma Landes and Chapman picked up two points each to make it 57-34 at the 7:06 mark.
