CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team got off to a tremendous start on Saturday afternoon picking up a 25-22 first set win over the visiting Swarthmore College. Unfortunately, for the Red and White, the Garnet took the ensuing three sets to secure a 3-1 Centennial Conference win inside the Kline Center.
First Set
- The duo of Amelia Kim and Mallie Thomas started things off strong for the Devils as they held a 5-4 edge.
- After two in a row for Swarthmore gave them a 6-5 lead, Lora Flynn, Eliette Whittaker and Kim went on a 7-3 push to make it 13-8.
- Points for Isabel Adam and Angelina Heminway brought the Garnet back to level 15-15.
- Two straight errors and scores by Katie Arcara and Kim brought DC on the cusp of the set at 22-17.
- A kill for Alexia Enache sparked a 5-2 push (24-22), but a score pounded home by Thomas closed the frame 25-22.
Second Set
- The two sides traded points early on as kills for Arcara and Whittaker had things locked at 6-6.
- The trio of Nicole Kim, Adam and Heminway helped the guests to claim six of the next nine to jump ahead 12-9.
- Two scores from Kim brought DC to within 13-11, before two errors along with an ace by Melissa Eyer pushed the gap to 16-11.
- Three kills put down by Thomas as well as a block from Emery Fishbach helped the Devils to keep fighting, but two kills from Heminway opened the lead to six (21-15).
- As has been the case all season the Red and White put up a battle as points for Jessica Currie, Fishbach, Kim, Thomas and Whittaker aided a 7-1 home run to draw even at 22-22.
- Unfortunately, three of the next four belonged to Swarthmore allowing them to take the set (25-23).
Third Set
- An ace for Amanda Palo and kills by Arcara and Kim kept things tight early at 6-6.
- The pair of Maya Sheridan and Kim sent the visitors on an 8-3 romp to jump out to a 14-9 advantage.
- A kill each from Arcara, Kim and Whittaker kept Dickinson around at 17-13.
- Three Dickinson miscues allowed the Garnet to make it 21-14, but Camille Dofiles and Kim organized a 6-1 run to get within 22-20.
- Back-to-back kills from Keira Miles ended the frame at 25-20.
Fourth Set
- Two errors from Swarthmore had it at 2-2 early, but then an 11-1 charge for the Garnet pushed them ahead 13-3.
- A kill each for Currie and Whittaker trimmed the gap slightly to 16-7, before the guests nabbed seven of the next eight extending the advantage (23-8).
- Dickinson answered with five of the following six making it 24-13, unfortunately a DC attack error finished off the match.
