Devils Season Ends With Hard Fought FIve Set Loss in CC First Round

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The sixth seed Dickinson volleyball team built up a 2-1 lead on Wednesday evening against third-seeded Haverford College in the First Round of the Centennial Conference Tournament at Gooding Arena. Unfortunately, for the  Red and White they were unable to close things out in four which allowed the host Fords to post a 15-10 win in the deciding fifth to earn the win.

First Set
  • An ace for Eliana Brown opened the match for the home side and sent them on a 12-3 romp to start.
  • Kills by Camille Dofiles, Emery Fishbach, Norah Oppenheim and Mallie Thomas brought Dickinson to within 15-11.
  • The quartet of Elizabeth Cella, Kayla Chu, Gia Frank and Maggie Turner extended the hosts advantage to 23-13.
  • Three miscues from the Fords made it 24-16, but Brown put home the final kill of the frame (25-16).
Second Set
  • An assisted block between Amelia Kim and Fishbach coupled by kills for Jessica Currie along with Eliette Whittaker nudged DC ahead 8-7 to start things off.
  • A kill from Frank leveled things up, before Currie, Dofiles, Fishbach and Kim all chipped in points to give the Devils a 15-10 advantage.
  • However, Cameryn DeBlecourt, Izabela Potocnjak, Frank and Turner ripped off five in a row to tie things up (15-15).
  • The pair of Fishbach and Oppenheim combined for four straight blocks, followed by kills from Avery Butcher, Thomas and Whittaker helped the Devils end on a 10-3 sprint for the 25-18 win.
Third Set
  • Fishbach, Kim, Oppenheim and Thomas sparked DC early to a 4-2 lead.
  • After two in a row from Haverford tied things at 4-4, Katie Arcara, Currie, Fishbach, Kim, Oppenheim and Thomas helped the Red and White to double up the Fords by a margin of 14-7.
  • Brown and Cella each recorded kills to keep the margin at seven (17-10), but two kills for Currie and solos by Fishbach and Thomas gave DC a 21-13 advantage.
  • A kill for Frank then kicked off a 9-1 romp to draw even (22-22).
  • Fortunately, for the Devils they claimed three of the final four to take the set (25-23).
Fourth Set
  • Haverford got off to a fast start with kills for Cella and Frank making it 7-3.
  • Dickinson battled back to 9-9 thanks to contributions from Fishbach, Kim, Oppenheim and Thomas.
  • The Fords then took control as Brown, Cella, DeBlecourt, Frank and Moord all tallied points to push the hosts ahead 19-13.
  • A kill each for Kim and Oppenheim made the score 21-15, but Brown and Turner earned four of the last five (25-17).
Fifth Set
  • One kill apiece by Fishbach, Oppenheim and Thomas sent the Red and White out to the early 5-3 advantage.
  • Unfortunately, a score for Cella sparked a 6-0 run for the Fords to jump ahead 9-5.
  • Caroline Cusson notched her first kill of the match off a feed from Lora Flynn to pull the Devils within 11-9.
  • Two scores by Brown and one kill put home by Cella helped the home team to cap off the 15-10 victory.
