Devils Done In by Aggies Second Half Rally in Centennial-MAC Bowl Game

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Dickinson football team took a 10-0 lead into halftime on Saturday afternoon against Delaware Valley University in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Game at James Work Stadium. Unfortunately, for the Red and White two long second-half touchdown receptions by Mike Galasso would be enough to edge the Aggies past the Devils 14-13.

First Quarter
  • The home side would get the ball to start the game and only have it for two plays, before Galasso was picked off by Jason Genilello to setup the Devils on the DVU31. Two runs for Cedric Benning III and pass from Giovanni Del Re to Kellen Boyer had DC at the Aggies 14. A two-yard carry for Keesean Campbell later in the drive set the visitors up for an 18-yard field goal by Justin Worobel to make it 3-0 four minutes in.
  • The ensuing Aggies drive used eight runs and passes from Galasso to the duo of Alvaro Lora and Gavin Migliori to advance down to the DC10 facing third and one. Justin Brown would attempt to carry the ball for the first, but was thrown down for a two-yard loss by Genilello. Then on fourth, Galasso pass was broken up by Juan Pablo Garcia.
Second Quarter
  • Runs of 22 and 11 by Dane Sorensen along with a 13-yard scamper for Del Re helped the Red and White approach midfield. A 20-yard connection to Boyer got DC inside the Aggies red zone to end the first. Two consecutive carries from Sorensen to open the frame had the Devils on the doorstep at the DVU1. Sorensen then finished off the strong drive by plunging in from a yard out to make it 10-0 (Justin Worobel kick).
  • Galasso used the air to push the ball down the field as he found Rob McConnell, Kahir Thompson and Migliori to advance the rock to the DVU43. Sean Couvertiere and Genilello stuffed Brown for a short gain on second down, before Jason Hollinger broke up a pass intended for Alex Rufe to force a punt giving it back to DC on their own nine.
  • Neither team could get much going the remainder of the period as Genilello would intercept Galasso for a second time and Del Re was picked by Jovan Tyrell to send the game to the break still at 10-0.
Third Quarter
  • The Devils used a "ground and pound" approach running seven straight times on the opening drive as Benning III carried for a combined 17 yards, Del Re added 18 and Sorensen chipped in five to get the visitors up to the DVU33. Unfortunately, for Dickinson the first time they put it in the air Micah Bootman stepped in front of the pass to put the Aggies on the DVU37.
  • Three carries for Brown and a pass to Lora brought the home side to the DC40, but left them facing fourth-and-two. Galasso would climb up in the pocket and deliver a strike to Migliori for a 40-yard touchdown strike and close the gap to 10-7 (Brendan Hazell kick).
  • A 22-yard return on the kickoff by Campbell set the Devils up on their own 37 to begin the drive. It started off great as Sorensen carried for 28 and 17 yards respectively on the first two plays to rest on the DVU18. Campbell and Sorensen continued to run the rock picking up a yard each, before Del Re pushed forward for four yards to the DVU14. That brought out Worobel for a 24-yard field goal to make it 13-7 after three.
Fourth Quarter
  • Delaware Valley opened the period with the ball on the edge of the red zone at the DC23. On the first play of the frame the duo of Julien Devlin and Sam Orzolek shutdown Brown for no gain. Then two plays later Domani White joined Garcia in wrapping up Thompson after a short reception of three yards to make it fourth-and-seven on the DC20. Galasso would have his pass knocked away by Will Ryan to give it back to the Devils.
  • Unfortunately for the Red and White, they went three-and-out forcing a 44-yard punt by Michael Furlong giving it back to the hosts on their own 32. The Aggies needed just two plays for Galasso to link up with Migliori for a 64-yard touchdown grabbing a 14-13 advantage (Brendan Hazell kick).
  • The Devils would have two more possessions in the game, but they would result in a three-and-out as well as a Furlong punt respectively to end the game.
