Devils Fall Short of CC Title Berth With Loss to Blue Jays in Semifinals

Box Score BALTIMORE - The third-seeded Dickinson women's soccer team fell just shy of a berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament Final on Friday night falling by a margin of 1-0 to the second seed Johns Hopkins University at Homewood Field. The Red and White struggled on the day to find any offensive rhythm as the Blue Jays held a 14-5 edge in shots (5-1 on target).

First Half
  • Inside the opening 20 minutes there were only just two shots both of which coming from Johns Hopkins, but the offerings from Caroline Marcus and Megha Salvi did not bother DC keeper Pico Gray.
  • Following a string of three consecutive visiting fouls Salvi did test Gray in the 25th fortunately she was up to the task.
  • However, five minutes later the Jays got the only marker of the match when Tatum Adamson connected with Natalie Smith for the finish. Smith went in search of a 2-0 advantage with one minute remaining, but she could not get it on frame.
Second Half
  • Hopkins continued to apply the pressure on the DC backline early in the period as Irene Sanchez Burgueno hit the post, before having her rebound attempt shutdown by Gray.
  • The Blue Jays defense continued to cause the Devils all kinds of problems as they did not concede a shot to the visitors until the 75:15 mark when Joelle Ma was denied by Ella Kruntchev.
  • Two minutes later the Red and White once again had a chance to tie the match off a corner, but Lila Brown sent her header wide left.
  • After Gray made another stop on Salvi to keep it at 1-0, Brown had one final crack at tying the match unfortunately she missed high to end the match.
