CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball went just 2-of-21 from downtown on Saturday as the Widener University Pride who are receiving votes in the newest D3hoops.com poll were able to erase a 37-34 halftime deficit en route to a hard fought 65-61 non-conference win inside the Kline Center.
First Quarter
- The Pride showed early on why they are garnering some national attention as a layup for Jayla Daniels started an 11-2 run over the first 3:52.
- Jumpers from the trio of Mia Chapman, Leah Dubin and Victoria Zerbe cut the margin to 13-8 with a little under five minutes left.
- Ava Baer would knock home a jay and Zerbe converted an "and one" opportunity off a layup getting the score to 15-11 after one as the teams combined to miss the final 14 shots of the frame.
Second Quarter
- Zerbe would setup Lizzie McGrath for a three before the two flipped roles with Zerbe cashing in a dish from McGrath. Gabby Smelcer also added a layup of her own to bring DC within one (19-18) two minutes in.
- Four points picked up by Lindsay Kutz and two for Riley Stackhouse allowed the visitors to continue to hold-off the Red and White at 25-21 with 4:43 gone.
- The trio of Emma Landes, Jessica Maina and Chapman then embarked on a 10-2 charge ending with a three from Maina to take a 31-27 advantage.
- Free throws for Clare Cronley and Landes extended the margin to six (35-29), buckets from Mia Elisano and Stackhouse brought it down to 37-34 at half.
Third Quarter
- One jumper each from Cronley, Landes and McGrath within the opening three minutes kept the home side in front at 43-38.
- A triple by Kimberly Casiello sparked a 7-3 push for the Pride to cut the deficit down to just one 46-45 at the 6:32 mark.
- Two at the charity line for Chapman and a jumper drilled by Addison Cadwell moved the hosts back ahead 50-47. However, consecutive baskets from Kutz prior to the horn gave the Pride a slim 51-50 edge heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- Both Chapman and Cronley tallied early in the period to once again close the gap to just one (55-54) two minutes in.
- A single foul shot delivered by Landes was the lone home point during an 8-1 run for the Pride as they would take a 63-55 lead with under three minutes to play.
- Dickinson came storming back with six in a row thanks to Esther Nlebemuo, Cadwell and McGrath making it 63-61 with 91-seconds left.
- Free throws for Kutz and Stackhouse was enough for the visitors to close out the 65-61 win.
