Dopirak's Career-High Not Enough to Spark Devils in Non-Conference Loss to Spartans

YORK, Pa. – Sophomore Joey Dopirak dropped a career-high 20 points and junior Dane Moran added another 17, but it would not be enough on the night as the Dickinson men's basketball team suffered an 88-72 non-conference setback to the Spartans of the York College of Pennsylvania inside of Wolf Gymnasium.

First Half
  • A layup by Dane Moran was the lone DC bucket for the first three-plus minutes as the Spartans jumped out to a 10-2 edge.
  • The duo of Cole Cosby and Moran tried to bring the Devils back as they trimmed it down to 10-9 five minutes in.
  • Two foul shots from Ben Troyer then sparked an 11-3 charge for the home team with Juan Ruiz picking up the three DC points to make it 21-12 inside of ten minutes remaining.
  • After, Moran knocked down a jumper off a feed from Isaiah Edmond, Jayden Rowe buried back-to-back triples to begin a 15-0 romp stretching the advantage to 35-14 with 5:34 to go.
  • A pair of three-balls by Dopirak along with two free throws and two points each for Edmond and Moran brought the Red and White to within 35-26.
  • Buckets for Edmond and Moran accounted for the Devils points during an 8-4 Spartans sprint to end the period making it 43-30.
Second Half
  • York began the frame with the trio of Tate Landis, Rowe and Troyer going on a 19-2 run over the first 5:29 as a layup for Ruiz accounted for the lone visiting bucket during that stretch (62-32).
  • Over the ensuing five minutes a triple for Matt Mahoney and other contributions from Jacob Pichay, Edmond and Moran brought the gap to 66-42.
  • Following a long-range effort from Cooper Haberern, points out of the hands of Dopirak, Mahoney, Moran and Pichay managed to bite into the deficit slightly making it 76-54 with 5:54 to play.
  • Six of the next eight went to York, before Daniel Ablorh, Bryce Donovan, Luis Ruiz and Dopirak all found the bottom of the net over the remainder of the half to set the 88-72 final.
