GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson women's swimming team competed in the Gettysburg College Invitational on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6 over three sessions. The team finished fourth overall, capped by many top ten finishes and personal records.
Top Finishes
Session One Results
- The women's 200 Free Relay opened the competition where the A Relay, Tori May, Madeline Dold, Alina Shipley, and Caitlin Gross, finished sixth with a time of 1:41.02. The B Relay of Natalie Bezanson, Isobell O'Connell, Izzy Klonsky, and Julia Byers recorded a 1:43.74 swim to claim 11th place.
- The Red Devils conquered the women's 200 IM, taking two of the top-three spots. Junior Anna Gnagey continued her fantastic season with a second place, 2:10.87 finish, about three seconds behind her personal and school record set at last year's Gettysburg Invite. Senior Emma Johnston followed in third place, setting a new personal record of 2:12.43.
- Next was the women's 50 Free where Gross tallied a fifth place finish in 24.36, just 0.16 short of her PR.
- The women's 400 Medley Relay featured a fourth place finish from Gnagey, Bezanson, Johnston, and Gross finished in 4:00.80. The B Relay of May, Bella Gerkin, Klonsky, and Dold rounded out the top ten with a 4:11.58 finish.
Session Two Results
- The women started the morning in the 200 Medley Relay, highlighted by Gnagey, Bezanson, Johnston, and Dold's third place, 1:50.23 finish. The B Relay finished in 11th place, with May, Gerkin, Klonsky, and O'Connell's 1:55.95 swim.
- First-year Alina Shipley continued in the women's 400 IM with a strong second place finish, touching the wall in 4:41.96.
- In the women's 100 Fly, Johnston had another great swim with a 59.25 finish for seventh place. Byers placed 15th, with a 1:01.42 finish.
- The Red and White continued onto the women's 200 Free, where May notched a ninth place, 2:00.16 finish. Gnagey followed closely in 12th, recording a 2:00.87 swim. First-year Anja Tarateta placed 15th overall, with a strong 2:03.57 finish.
- The women's 100 Breast was highlighted by junior Molly Whitaker's 1:15.58 swim for 15th place.
- Session Two concluded with the women's 800 Free, where the A Relay of Byers, Gross, Bezanson, and Gnagey notched a fourth place finish in 8:02.82. Johnston, Shipley, O'Connell, and Whitaker made up the B Relay and tallied a 8:19.72, eighth place finish.
Session Three Results
- May opened the evening in the 1650 Free, tallying a fifth place, 18:05.20 finish.
- The Red Devils continued on in the 200 Back, where Gnagey continued her great weekend with a third place, 2:09.85 finish. Shipley notched a great sixth place finish, swimming a 2:13.45. In tenth place was Tarateta with her 2:18.44 performance.
- In the 100 Free, Gross had another top five finish with her 53.64 swim which placed her fourth overall.
- Bezanson continued her great first year in the Red and White with a fourth place, 2:29.54 finish.
- First-year Keely McGhee tallied a seventh place 2:21.14 finish in the 200 Fly.
- The 400 Free Relay featured the squad of Byers, Gnagey, Johnston, and Gross notching a sixth place, 3:41.08 finish. The B Relay of May, Klonsky, Dold, and Shipley placed ninth with a 3:45.07 performance.
What's Next?
The Dickinson Red Devils will open the New Year at home, hosting the Dickinson Tri-Meet on Friday, January 16. The meet will feature teams from Bloomsburg University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and events are set to start at 3 p.m. in the Clarke Aquatic Center.
