FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Despite a very balanced offensive attack that saw five players reach double-digits the Dickinson men's basketball team was unable to complete a late rally on Saturday afternoon as the Red and White dropped an 88-74 non-conference decision to the sixth-ranked University of Mary Washington Eagles inside the Anderson Center.
First Half
- Things were tight early as buckets from Dane Moran and Luis Ruiz helped the visitors to hold a slim 8-7 lead five minutes in.
- A layup for Kye Robinson put the home side back ahead (9-8), but Andrew Cerullo, Isaiah Edmond, Matt Mahoney and Jacob Pichay all found the bottom of the cup to to move the Devils back ahead 17-13 with just over ten minutes left.
- Triples from Ulysses Young and Robinson sparked a 13-6 outburst during the next couple of minutes allowing the Eagles to soar ahead to a 26-23 edge with 7:23 left.
- Off a rebound pulled in by Ryan Leskauskas he kicked the ball ahead to Edmond who found Joey Dopirak for a triple to knot the game back up at 26-26.Â
- Eight points by Jadon Burgess during the next three minutes helped the Eagles to reclaim a 36-30 advantage.
- A three-ball for Mahoney and foul shots knocked down by Pichay and Juan Ruiz allowed the Devils to hold the margin at six (42-36), but the hosts answered with the final four to take a 46-36 halftime lead.
Second Half
- The Eagles showed why they are ranked inside the Top-10 early in the period as they embarked on a 12-3 romp over the first 5:27 to push their lead out to 58-39.
- Two Mahoney triples along with a pair of Moran free throws trimmed the gap to 62-47 still with 12:09 left.
- A three from Robinson slowed the DC push for a second, before a pair of Dopirak treys and another Mahoney long-range shot as well as contributions for L. Ruiz gave the Devils a lifeline at 71-60 inside of seven minutes to play.
- Buckets put away by the duo of Robinson and Young made it 75-60, but nine in a row from Cole Cosby in a 1:24 span brought DC on the verge of an upset at 75-69.
- Another Cosby bomb cut the deficit to five (77-72), but a layup by Josh Sewordor started an 11-2 run for the birds to close the game with an 88-74 win.
