Devils End Skid by Galloping Past Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team had eleven players score on Wednesday night, including getting 13 each from first-year Lizzie McGrath and senior Clair Marion en route to snapping their four-game slide by knocking off Muhlenberg College 69-41 in Centennial Conference play inside Memorial Hall.

  • The home side took an early 3-0 lead on a triple from Ava Connolly, before the Red and White responded with a 12-2 outburst on buckets by Ella Smith, Jenna Weinstein, Victoria Zerbe and Marion to take a 12-5 edge with five minutes gone.
  • A Rachel Saxton jumper slowed the roll for a second, but five for Weinstein, three by Marion and two from McGrath pushed the DC advantage to 21-7 with 8:28 gone.
  • Five straight out of the hands of Katie McGrath trimmed it to 21-12. However, Dickinson's McGrath finished at rim just prior to the horn for a 23-12 lead.

  • The opening minute saw each team find the bottom of the as the Caitlin Blackman and Veronica Dawson scored for their respective sides.
  • Then, Blackman hit from downtown to spark a 12-0 run with other contributions coming from Mia Chapman, Marion and Zerbe taking the margin out to 37-15 at the four minute mark.
  • Muhlenberg used three-balls by Emily Unger and Saxton aided a 9-3 charge to close out the period at 40-24.

  • Blackman and Zerbe accounted for the first three points of the period making it 43-24 with three minutes gone.
  • Four straight foul shots trimmed the gap to 43-28, but nine in a row between Marion and McGrath extended the lead to 55-28 at the 7:46 mark.
  • Triples by both Lyndsey Costigan and Faith Tucker tried to give the Mules some life into the fourth at 55-34.
Template - 4th Quarter
  • Dickinson allowed the home side no hope though as Clare Cronley, Esther Nlebemuo, Gabby Smelcer and Marion embarked on a 10-3 romp opening the lead to 65-37 with 4:30 remaining on the clock.
  • The two sides traded the final eight points with Emma Landes and Weinstein posting the points for the Red and White to see out the 69-41 final.
