First Half Blitz Jolts No. 10 Devils Past Bears in CC Opener

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The tenth-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team scored three times inside the final 20 minutes of the first half and added one more just over a minute into the second period en route to a 4-1 win over the host Ursinus College at Patterson Field in the Centennial Conference opener for both sides.

First Half
  • Each side recorded two shots inside the opening 15 minutes, but none of them bothered the goalkeepers Nick Potter for the Devils and Josiah Moore for Ursinus. Saul Iwowo and Timi Omoniwa posted the attempts for the Red and White during that stretch.
  • Dickinson then seized control of things as Nicholas Dwamena and Ethan Jarden put the ball towards frame in the 17th and 19th, unfortunately could not get them on target.
  • However, during the 29th minute that was when the Devils would finally crack the scoreboard. Jeremy Sallade ripped one at frame that was pushed away by Moore. Fortunately, the ensuing rebound was pounced on by Jarden who rippled the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
  • After Michael McCool was stopped by Potter, the Devils got out on the counter attack and ultimately made it 2-0 with 35:09 gone thanks to Iwowo off a nice feed from Omoniwa.
  • The Devils were not done for the period though as Nicky Williams connected with Darian Crim for the finish and a 3-0 advantage at the break.
Second Half
  • It took the Red and White just 67 seconds to extend the margin to 4-0 when Dwamena broke through the defense and found Westin Fryberger for the finish.
  • Over the ensuing 20 minutes the two sides would share four shots, but not put any of them on frame.
  • With ten minutes to play the Bears put the pressure on the Devils back line with both Matthew McFadden and Matthew Lohr having their chances blocked down by the defense, before Eliot Bowen bested Potter to cut it down to 4-1.
  • Jacob Santamaria tried to trim one more off the margin in the 88th, but sent it high left to end the match at 4-1.
