GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Senior two-way player
Victoria Zerbe dropped a season and career-high 19 points and hauled in eight rebounds on Wednesday night, but unfortunately it would not be enough as the host Gettysburg College Bullets picked up a 64-45 Centennial Conference win inside of Bream Gymnasium.
First Quarter
- The hosts started strong jumping out to a 9-2 lead with 2:18 off the clock as a Zerbe layup accounted for the lone Dickinson basket.
- Two at the stripe for Mia Chapman and another layup by Zerbe chopped the score to 9-6, before Amanda Rapel converted an "and one" opportunity to help the Bullets double-up the Red and White 12-6.
- A triple for Lizzie McGrath couple with buckets for Emma Landes, Gabby Smelcer and Zerbe kept DC close at 16-15 with 1:44 left.
- Kimberly Hopkins and Rapel each found the bottom of the net prior to the horn to take a 20-15 lead into the second.
Second Quarter
- Gettysburg would take command of the game in the second as a jumper from Ava O'Neil sent the home side on a 12-2 run over an eight minute stretch to open the lead out to 32-17. During the outburst for the Bullets, Dickinson missed nine straight shots and turned the ball over six times.
- Zerbe finally ended the GC run with a foul line jumper off a feed from Chapman as the game went to the half at 32-19.
Third Quarter
- The two sides combined for six consecutive misses to begin the frame, before Rapel finished off the old-fashioned "three-point play" for the 35-19 lead with 8:36 remaining.
- Eight of the next dozen went the way of the Devils thanks to buckets for Chapman, Smelcer and Zerbe (39-27).
- Hopkins and Rapel collected five in a row, but then Addison Cadwell embarked on a personal 6-0 charge to make it 44-33 inside of a minute left.
- Rapel and Zerbe traded buckets to end the period at 46-36.
Fourth Quarter
- It took just over two minutes for each team to tally a bucket as Hopkins and Zerbe scored for their respective sides.
- A foul shot for Rapel with 2:41 gone kicked off a 14-2 romp for the Bullets with a pair of Landes free throws being the only DC points as the score read 62-40 with 1:44 left.
- Jessica Maina knocked down a triple and Zerbe added two at the chairty line to set the 64-45 result.
