Balanced Effort Not Enough for Devils to Bring Down Blue Jays in Baltimore

BALTIMORE - The Dickinson men's basketball team got double-digits from the group of Joey Dopirak, Ryan Leskauskas, Dane Moran and Juan Ruiz as they combined for 58 points, but it would not be enough as the host Johns Hopkins University picked up an 87-68 conference win at Goldfarb Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

First Half
  • Hopkins got out to a quick start as layups for Joey Dopirak and Dane Moran were the only DC buckets during the first four minutes as the home side led 9-4.
  • Dickinson used the next four-minute block to turn the game around as a pair of Dopirak triples along with contributions from Juan Ruiz and Moran aided a 12-2 run for a 16-11 edge.
  • Ryan Leskauskas knocked down a trey and then setup Moran for a mid-range jumper to maintain a slim lead at 23-21 with nine minutes left.
  • J. Ruiz then provided the only Devil bucket during a 10-2 charge for the Blue Jays to flip the score in their favor as a "three-point" play for Charlie Jackson made it 31-25 at the 13:09 mark.
  • A long-range shot for Matt Mahoney, two shots by Dopirak at the charity line and a layup from J. Ruiz knocked the gap to just four (36-32). However, the trio of Tanti Felli, Jeb Williams and Jackson embarked on a 12-2 flight to soar to a 48-34 halftime lead.
Second Half
  • Dunks from Felli and Williams coupled with a triple by Wyatt Eglinton Manner gave the Jays a 55-36 advantage with 3:50 off the clock.
  • The group of Leskauskas, Moran and J. Ruiz all found the bottom of the net over the next few minutes but were not able to chop into the lead as JHU continued to stay ahead by a score of 68-49.
  • Free throws knocked down by Andrew Cerullo, Leskauskas and J. Ruiz made the margin 76-59 with 5:34 to play.
  • Isaiah Edmond, Dopirak and Moran accounted for the rest of the Dickinson offense as the Blue Jays sealed up the 87-68 win.
