CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson Volleyball Team fought hard for four sets before they suffered a setback on Wednesday at the hands of Johns Hopkins by a score of 3-1 at the Kline Center.
First Set
- The visitors took 8 of the first 12 points, including 2 kills from Bethany Sherwood and 2 aces from Sami Hockers.
- The Devils got as close as 12-8 before the Blue Jays went on a 6-0 run behind two kills from Ivy Swafford and an ace from Ella Wismer.
- After a Jessica Currie kill brought the score to 20-11, Johns Hopkins scored 5 of the last 6 points.
Second Set
- The Red and White started the set in a 10-6 deficit but brought the score back to even at 11 with assistance from a Currie kill and an ace from Amanda Palo.
- After the Blue Jays took a 14-11 lead, the Devils came back to take a 16-15 advantage on another Currie kill, two aces from Brenna Williams, and a lead-taking kill from Mallie Thomas.
- A back-and-forth set, it was tied at 22 when three straight attack errors - two from Hopkins and one by Dickinson - set up match point for the hosts.
- A kill by Thomas gave the set to the Devils by a score of 25-23.
Third Set
- An ace from Swafford early gave the Blue Jays an early 8-3 lead.
- The Devils held even after the early run, never trailing by more than 5Â over the next 10 points, until the visitors scored 4 straight to extend their lead to 8.
- The Devils went on a 7-2 scoring run to trail 24-19, but a Wismer kill ended the run and the set in Hopkins' favor, 25-19.
Fourth Set
- The Devils scored 14 of the first 25 points in the set, getting kills from Norah Oppenheim, Thomas, Kylie Schner, and Currie, as well as an ace from Schner.
- The Blue Jays responded with 7 of the next 8 points, getting two aces from Sami Hockers and one from Swafford.
- With the Devils trailing 22-18, a service error and two attack errors by the Blue Jays brought their lead down to 1.
- Two kills from Swafford closed out the set and match for Hopkins, who took the match by a score of 3 sets to 1.
