WSOC – DESTINATION SWARTHMORE! Barrabee’s Tally Sends Devils Past Bullets in CC First Round

CARLISLE, Pa. – Emma Barrabee finished off a cross from Bridget Merkel with 76:17 gone to lift the third-seeded Dickinson women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over the six seed Gettysburg College at Miller Memorial Field on Tuesday night.

First Half
  • Dickinson spent the opening 20 minutes on the attack with the trio of Isabelle Bariso, Anna Bitsko and Joelle Ma letting shots fly towards goal, but none of them tested Anna Kavountzis.
  • Gettysburg then started to find some offensive flow earning three corners resulting in two shots, none of which bothered DC keeper Pico Gray.
  • In the 36th minute, Ava Prisco became the first player to ask a question of a goalkeeper forcing Kavountzis into a stop, before Norah Heacock was stopped by the netminder five minutes later.
  • Gray closed the door on Brooke Morrison with just over a minute to play bringing the match to the break scoreless.
Second Half
  • The Bullets had the Devils on their heels early with Kate Labarge and Kristine Squeglia tasked Gray into making a pair of stops as ten minutes had elapsed.
  • With a half-hour remaining Kavountzis had the answer for a Bitsko blast, while Gray denied Squeglia about eight minutes later.
  • After offerings from Kylee Gust and Morrison went off target, Dickinson came pushing numbers the other way leading to the group of Megan Lomotan, Bitsko and Merkel all missing the target.
  • However, all the pressure from the Red and White was finally rewarded in the 77th when Merkel dribbled down the left side of the pitch and sent a cross to Barrabee who knocked the ball by Kavountzis for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Bullets had one final chance to find an equalizer with 64-seconds remaining, but their corner kick did not result in a shot allowing the Devils to advance to Friday's semifinals.
