Devils Show Strong Effort in Season Ending Loss to Blue Jays

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team used a well-balanced effort including putting five players in double figures to try and secure a season ending upset win over one of the conference best in Johns Hopkins University. Unfortunately, for the Devils a valiant late game charge fell just short of accomplishing the goal as the Blue Jays escaped the Kline Center with an 81-77 win on Saturday afternoon.

First Half
  • It was the visitors that got out to a fast start with Charlie Jackson racking up six points during an 11-4 run over the opening five minutes. In that span it was seniors Daniel Ablorh and Matt Mahoney who provided the points for Dickinson.
  • A free throw by Dane Moran stalled the charge for a second, but buckets from Logan Feller and Jackson made it 16-5.
  • Over the next couple of minutes triples knocked down by Andrew Cerullo and Ryan Leskauskas along with a layup for Ian Polonowski cut the margin to 20-13 with 11:34 gone.
  • The two sides traded the ensuing eight points with Isaiah Edmond and Moran tallying for the Devils to leave the score at 24-17 inside of seven to play.
  • A pair of Feller treys made it 30-19, but foul shots drilled by the trio of Cole Cosby, Leskauskas and Mahoney knocked the gap to six (31-25).
  • Buckets from Joey Dopirak, Cosby and Leskauskas would give DC some momentum going to the second half as they trailed 37-32.
Second Half
  • Dickinson continued the comeback trail early in the period with a three-ball for Cosby and two at the stripe by Edmond making it 39-37 two minutes in.
  • However, a pair of Jackson foul shots sparked a 14-2 charge ending on a layup for Nick Klaiber to take a 53-39 lead still with 14 minutes to play.
  • Mahoney then used the ensuing five minutes to record the next ten DC points to make it 62-49.
  • Six points for Jackson allowed the Jays to continue keeping the Devils at an arm's length as he pushed the margin to 70-54 with 13:42 gone.
  • The trio of Cosby, Edmond and Moran kept on battling for the Red and White, but were unable to make much of a dent as JHU continued to hold onto a 79-67 lead inside of three minutes left.
  • The same group then embarked on a 10-0 charge to get within two (79-77) with 50-seconds to play. Then, a miss for Wyatt Eglinton Manner allowed Ablorh to get the ball up to Edmond unfortunately his tying layup fell just short and Eglinton Manner stuck two foul shots to finish off the game.
