CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team got goals from ten different players and scored nine goals in the opening period en route to a comfortable 15-5 non-conference win over the visiting DeSales University at Biddle Field on Saturday afternoon.
First Quarter
- It was the visitors who posted the first shot of the game as Bridey Lawler was denied by Peyton VanDorpe just under two minutes into the game.Â
- Dickinson would open the scoring at the 2:30 mark when Eva Gardner buried a free-position shot past Larkin Trainor. She then repeated the performance a minute later, before a draw won by Quinn Foa ended up in the stick of Grace Kelly who found Bella Guckes for the 3-0 lead five minutes in.
- Just over a minute later following a turnover caused by Alex Hackett, Kelly setup Crawford Fisher for a goal. Ali Broome won the ensuing draw which gave Gardner the ability to finish her hat trick. The following DC possession ended up with the Devils sixth tally of the game as Abby Geary linked up with Kelly.
- Jillian McNulty pushed the gap to 7-0, before DeSales finally struck thanks to Olivia Costa. However, markers from Carson Cerow and Geary surrounded a strike by Lawler to set the 9-2 scoreline after one.
Second Quarter
- With two minutes off the clock Dickinson extended the margin to 10-2 with Caroline Cavendish hooking up with Guckes. A minute after that Broome poked the ball away from Emily Mulroony allowing Kelly to scoop up the rock and fire it beyond the reach of Trainor (11-2).
- The Devils defense continued to be lockdown as they did not allow a shot to the Bulldogs through the first ten minutes. At the other end of the field coming off a turnover, Geary collected the ball and found Lexi Thaut for DC's 12th of the day.
- Dickinson would get one more in the period thanks to Foa making it 13-2 at halftime as DeSales did not record a shot during the frame.
Third Quarter
- Coming out of the break Brynna O'Brien went between the pipes for the Red and White. She would be tested for the first time five minutes in when Costa snapped a free-position shot past her.Â
- The Bulldogs tallied the next two shots, but neither of them got to cage. That would give Dickinson the opportunity to tack on another courtesy of Gardner extending the margin to 14-3 with less than five minutes to play.
- O'Brien did record her first stop of the day with 18 seconds left shutting down Mulroony.
Fourth Quarter
- DeSales used the opening five minutes to post three shots resulting in one save for O'Brien as well as another marker from Costa to cut the deficit down to 14-4.
- After Fisher intercepted a pass the ball made its way to Kelly who put a pass right in the stick of Meghan McDonald who beat the keeper for the 15-4 lead.
- Costa picked up another goal prior to the end of the game to set the 15-5 final.
