CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Forwards
Dane Moran and
Juan Ruiz combined for 39 points and 26 rebounds, while guard
Isaiah Edmond provided the game-winning layup with five seconds left to give the Dickinson men's basketball team a "nail-biting" 61-60 Centennial Conference win over Washington College at Fall Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
First Half
- Dickinson got out to a 9-3 lead five minutes in thanks to the trio of Edmond, Moran and J. Ruiz supplying the offense.
- Triples for Jacob Becker and David Carr Jr. helped the home side to rip off nine straight to jump ahead 12-9 with eight minutes gone.
- The ensuing 120 seconds saw Joey Dopirak embark on a solo 6-0 run to flip the score once again in the visitors favor at 15-12.
- Washington would battle back to even things at 20-20 with Davis Bland and Jaedon Harris hitting shots from long-range to help aid the cause.
- J. Ruiz then collected five of the next seven points to push the gap back to three (25-22), but four points by Max Portnoy and a trey out of the hands of Harris made it 29-26 WAC with 2:51 to play.
- The period of runs continued with Moran netting five straight, before an "old-fashioned" three-point play for Harris gave the Shoremen a 32-31 edge at halftime.
Second Half
- J. Ruiz came out strong for the Devils notching the first five points of the frame to turnaround the deficit into a 36-32 lead with just two minutes off the clock.
- Following a trey from Carr Jr., three points by Moran kept the guests up four (39-35).
- Five points by Jon Nalty helped the Shoremen to grab six of the ensuing eight to draw level at 41-41 with six minutes gone.
- Things continued to go "back and forth" over the next few minutes with baskets for Ryan Leskauskas, Edmond and Moran keeping things in a deadlock 49-49 at the ten minute mark.
- A triple deposited by Dopirak and layup for Jacob Pichay gave DC a four-point edge, but layups from Nalty and Portnoy immediately tied the score again (54-54).
- Free throws by Ty Woodland and Harris along with a Portnoy bucket moved the Shoremen barely ahead at 58-57 inside of two minutes remaining.
- Two foul shots each by Moran and Nalty left WAC up one (60-59) with ten seconds left leading to a DC timeout. That was when the inbound came to Edmond and he muscled his way into the paint on the righthand side forcing a layup off the window and in for the winner.
