No. 11 Devils Ride Past Mustangs Under the Lights in Maryland

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The 11th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team rode five goals from Landen Hyatt along with a hat trick for Ben Monroe en route to a solid 12-9 non-conference win over Stevenson University on Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.

First Quarter
  • Both sides were on the scoreboard with just over two minutes gone as Max Racich opened the scoring before Hayden Warren answered with a long-pole goal from 50-plus yards away as the home side was matched up "man to man" in the 10-man ride.
  • Dickinson tried to come right back and take their first lead, but Tyler Merchant shutdown Drew Stark twice.
  • That would give the Mustangs the ability to get the 2-1 edge through Darrell Curtis. Less than a minute later it became 3-1 with Gavin Gossen beating Rocco Bognet.
  • Off the ensuing faceoff win for Ryan Backus, Ben Monroe powered his shot by Merchant.
  • Following two stops by Bognet against Curtis and Racich respectively, Cullen Mulhern linked up with Hyatt for a blast knotting the score (3-3).
  • Stevenson tallied the final goal of the period to take a 4-3 edge to the second.
Second Quarter
  • Dickinson recorded the first four shots of the frame with Backus, Monroe and Mulhern all firing away, but not hitting the goal until Hyatt buried his second (4-4) with 11:56 left.
  • Another Bognet save this time against Camden Deming set the stage for Preston Boyd to connect with Hyatt for the finish just about two minutes later.
  • The sides combined to come up empty over the next six shots with Bognet being the only keeper tested by Gossen. It was that save that would allow DC to extend the lead thanks to Boyd.
  • With just under three minutes remaining, Stark cashed in unassisted for the 7-4 lead.
  • Bognet made sure to keep the Mustangs off the scoreboard in the quarter by denying Giovanni Daddario in the final minute.
Third Quarter
  • The Red and White needed 1:48 to find the back of net again with Hyatt setting up Monroe for a man-up tally as Thomas Tyler sat for a cross check.
  • Stevenson would take advantage of a two-minute man-up opportunity as Curtis solved Bognet to pull within 8-5, but off the ensuing win by Chase Squires, Merchant beat aside a chance for Mulhern before being bested by Monroe.
  • Walker Fiore ran down the groundball following the Squires faceoff victory and got it ahead to Ramsey Huggins who found Hyatt for another blast making it 10-5 with 6:46 to go.
  • Luke Devlin posted the last shot of the segment off a turnover caused by Will Single, unfortunately it went wide of the target.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Devils tallied off another man-up chance at the 1:23 mark as Luke Whalen found Hyatt for his fifth.
  • Stevenson tried to find some momentum with Racich beating Bognet to trim the gap to 11-6 still with 11 minutes to play.
  • After both keepers had the answer for the opposing offense, Charlie Baughan added his name to the scoresheet by finding Mulhern for the rip making the score 12-6 inside of four minutes left.
  • The home side closed the game giving the home fans something to cheer about with a three-goal run to set the 12-9 final.
