CARLISLE, Pa. - Sparked a combined nine goals from
Preston Boyd and
Landen Hyatt the 12th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team grabbed their second straight home win knocking off the visiting Roanoke College 16-9 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Biddle Field.
First Quarter
- It was "one-way" traffic early in the game as Dickinson recorded the first 11 shots of the game thanks to Tommy Baldini, Ramsey Huggins, Cullen Mulhern, Drew Stark, Luke Whalen, Boyd and Hyatt. During that stretch the trio of Boyd, Hyatt (Charlie Baughan assist) and Mulhern each found the back of the net past David Hamilton.
- After struggling to find an offensive rhythm early in the game, both Noah Bell and Patrick Cullen recorded shots resulting in one save from Rocco Bognet. However, Bell's second offering of the game did indeed cross the line to get within 3-1 inside of seven minutes to play.
- Two minutes later Bell struck for the second time to make it 3-2, but the Red and White had a quick answer courtesy of an unassisted strike from Huggins. The Devils were not done though as Stark cashed in during the final minute closing out the frame at 5-2.
Second Quarter
- Dickinson quickly made the score 6-2 as Chase Squires won the opening faceoff to Reid Bulger who got the rock ahead to Stark who setup Boyd.
- The hosts then added three more shots from Mac Childs and Caleb Oliver, but none found the mark.
- That gave the Maroons some much needed momentum as they recorded eight consecutive shots resulting in two stops by Bognet and one goal.
- With less than eight minutes to play a turnover forced by Will Single led to a marker for Ben Monroe, before Hayden Warren popped the rock free from Cullen resulting in a tally for Whalen making it 8-3.
- Each goalie was called upon later in the period with Hamilton shutting down the pair of Huggins and Whalen, while at the other end Bognet had the answer for Julian Kammerman. That stop led to DC getting out in transition allowing Ethan Ferrant to find Boyd for a 9-3 halftime edge.
Third Quarter
- The Devils came out of the break fast as another Squires faceoff win set the stage for a goal by Boyd just 29 ticks in (10-3).
- Defense was then the name of the game over the ensuing seven-plus minutes with both goalies notching a save to keep the score where it was.
- Roanoke would then take advantage of back-to-back home turnovers getting goals from Cullen and Kammerman to cut the gap to 10-5.
- Fortunately, Dickinson answered as they did all day with Luke Devlin picking up the ball of a Squires win leading to Stark bagging another one.
- That sent the hosts on a three-goal run to close things out as Hyatt and Boyd stretched the lead to 13-5 entering the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- An early marker for Kammerman gave the guests life, but two from Hyatt along with one by Monroe made it 16-6 with 7:39 to play.
- The rest of the game Dickinson would get shots from Taner Marusa and Oliver, unfortunately neither tested the keeper. At the other end the Maroons added three more to set the 16-9 result.
