CARLISLE, Pa. - The 13th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team got goals from eight different players and got some timely stops from goalie
Rocco Bognet to hold off the 10th-ranked Gettysburg College by a score of 12-11 under the lights at Biddle Field in conference action on Wednesday night.
First Quarter
- Offenses were rolling early as two faceoff wins for Jacob Goldstein led to tallies for Ethan Kessler and Charlie Johnson. However, sandwiched between those goals Ryan Backus collected a draw and got it ahead to Drew Stark for the strike leaving it at 2-1 not even two minutes in.
- Two minutes later Mac Childs and Kessler traded finishes, before a full-time penalty on Brian Delduchetto resulted in a pair of man-up goals from Ramsey Huggins and Taner Marusa to give the Devils their first edge at 4-3 with 9:16 left.
- Johnson drew the visitors level, but a stop for Bognet against Cooper Savoy resulted in Luke Whalen cashing in at the other end.
- Dickinson tried to push the gap to two heading into the second, but Murphy Hoey had the answer for Marusa.
Second Quarter
- After a wild first period the keepers finally settled in as Bognet and Hoey combined for four saves within the first five minutes.
- A minute later Hoey shutdown Preston Boyd, but the ball skipped out to Hayden Warren who found Marusa on the wing for the snipe and a 6-4 lead.
- The Bullets then took advantage of a shot clock violation and a giveaway caused by Benny Kasoff to grab a pair of goals from Johnson to tie things at 6-6 with just under two minutes to play.
- Bognet notched one more stop against Patrick Maroney in the final 20 seconds to send the game to the break.
Third Quarter
- Dickinson came out firing away as Boyd, Childs and Stark combined for five shots forcing two saves out of Hoey in the opening three minutes.Â
- Despite all the DC pressure it was actually the guests the tallied first thanks to Kessler. However, the man-up once again went to work for the Devils as Ben Monroe and Marusa each found the back of the cage for an 8-7 with 5:22 gone.
- Gettysburg then continued the game of runs with Kessler and Hearn burying the rock in a 16-second span to jump back in front 9-8.
- The DC defense would be the reason the Red and White had the score locked heading into the fourth as two Bognet saves and a turnover forced by Warren allowed Stark to strike (9-9).
Fourth Quarter
- Dickinson once again turned defense into offense just over a minute in as a shot clock violation against the Bullets sent Sam Bunten the other way and he stashed the rock past Hoey for the 10-9 lead.
- Three minutes later, Huggins jumped in the passing lane of Kasoff resulting in an unassisted marker by Boyd to make it 11-9 with 8:47 left.
- Johnson scored to get within one, but off the faceoff win for Backus, Whalen added another to his total to push the gap back to two (12-10).
- Coming off a timeout with 1:41 to play, Kessler connected with Barroll bringing the margin to one. Goldstein won the ensuing faceoff to give GC a chance at an equalizer, but Kessler threw the ball away to end the game.
