#6 Devils Can't Hold Onto Early Lead Against #16 Falcons in Local Derby

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The sixth-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team got a first half tally from Sachil Kenkre to take a 1-0 halftime lead. However, the host and 16th-ranked Messiah University collected three goals in just over a ten minute stretch in the second half to jump ahead 3-1 and hold on for the 3-2 non-conference win at Shoemaker Field.

First Half
  • Dickinson posted the first shot of the match in the fifth minute as Maxim Temple launched the ball over the top of the net.
  • Messiah responded with four of the next five chances with Sam Philips forcing a pair of stops out of Gavin Marr, while Caleb Daniels and Owen Resch each missed the target.
  • The duo of Roan Harrington and Timi Omoniwa were not able to bother Killian O'Reilly in minutes 20 and 29.
  • With 40:49 off the clock Andrew Schreiner and Omoniwa linked up to find Kenkre who stuck the ball in the net for a 1-0 edge.
  • The Red and White didn't have a lot of time to celebrate though as Preston Ramsey asked a question of Marr less than a minute later.
Second Half
  • It was the Devils who had the pressure early with O'Reilly having to repel the pair of Nicholas Dwamena and Temple.
  • Messiah then re-established their footing in the match posting the ensuing five shots with offerings from Jalen Keller and Resch beating Marr to making it 2-1 just over ten minutes in.
  • Off the following kickoff, DC quickly entered the attacking area and watch Patrick McCune actually beat O'Reilly, but it was scrambled off the goal line by the Falcons defense.
  • After Kyle Spodnik was able to extend the margin to 3-1, Dickinson recorded chances from Josh Dozier, Westin Fryberger and Omoniwa unfortunately none of them tested the keeper.
  • The Red and White closed out the scoring with just under 90-seconds remaining when Dozier played a corner to Temple who turned his shot into the net to set the 3-2 final.
