Devils Suffer First Loss of the Season to Spartans

YORK, Pa. - The Dickinson women's soccer team put forth another strong offensive effort on Wednesday not totaling 18 shots in their non-conference fixture against the host York College of Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, for the Red and White despite their best efforts they could not find the back of the net and a 26th-minute strike for Meg Kalthof stood up as the winner in a 1-0 decision at Graham Field.

First Half
  • The Devils were on the attack early tallying seven shots in the opening 13 minutes with Anna Bitsko forcing two stops out of Gracie Leathery, while Mamady Bangoura, Amber Liu, Joelle Ma and Ava Prisco all missed the mark.
  • Pico Gray in the Dickinson net was then tested in quick order turning away Lexi Mazzella twice and Kalthof to keep things scoreless as the match entered the 24th minute.
  • A minute later the match would see the only goal as Jess Bentzel linked up with Kalthof for the finish beyond the reach of Gray.
  • Off the ensuing kickoff, Ma attempted to tie the match, but Leathery had the answer.
  • She would also turn aside Emma Barrabee with five minutes remaining to send the match to the break.
Second Half
  • After a corner kick from Jena Witters led to a chance for Kalthof, the Devils went down the other way and had a shot by Ivana Vukas stopped.
  • Dickinson continued to just fire away at goal with Barrabee, Bitsko, Ma and Prisco all testing Leathery who continued to be perfect.
  • In the final ten minutes, the Red and White had three more offerings come from Bitsko, Prisco and Vukas, unfortunately, none of them pressed Leathery back into action as the match ended.
