Balanced Attack Powers Devils to Third Straight Win

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Dickinson women's volleyball team got eight kills each from Norah Oppenheim and Kylie Schner along with a game-high 13 from Mallie Thomas and hit nearly .250 as a team en route to erasing a 1-0 deficit to secure a 3-1 non-conference win over Penn State Harrisburg inside the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night.

First Set
  • Oppenheim notched the first Dickinson kill of the match to tie the score at 1-1, before Chasya Deliazard and Brianna Ondishin Ribon responded to give PSU a 5-2 edge.
  • Six Lions miscues and a Schner kill off a nice set from Lora Flynn bumped DC ahead 9-8.
  • Points for Emily Miller, Camryn Wettstone and Ribon allowed the home side to reclaim the lead 15-12.
  • A kill by Thomas cut the margin to two (18-16), but the Lions ran off seven of the next eight to take the set 25-17.
Second Set
  • The sides shared the opening eight points with Emery Fishbach supplying the only kill for the Devils.
  • Dickinson then went on a 6-2 sprint thanks to five Lion errors and a kill for Jessica Currie making it 10-6.
  • Two aces by Mollie Shadle and a Deliazard score pulled the gap to 10-9, before an Amanda Palo ace and additional points for Currie, Fishbach, Schner and Thomas moved the visitors back on top 17-12.
  • PSU would get no closer than three the rest of the way with a pair of Flynn aces and kills by Currie, Schner and Thomas closed out the 25-18 win.
Third Set
  • The Devils began the frame with a bang as scores from Avery Butcher, Caroline Cusson, Currie, Schner and Thomas made it 11-2.
  • Kills by Alex Jurney and Ribon slowed the roll for a second, before a trio of Thomas kills and individuals for Fishbach and Schner stretched the gap to 19-6.
  • PSU took advantage of four DC mistakes to try and gain some momentum at 21-11.
  • However, kills by Oppenheim and Thomas capped the 25-14 triumph.
Fourth Set
  • Despite PSU jumping out to a 4-1 lead, Schner and Thomas supplied kills to pull level 5-5.
  • After the Lions took a 7-5 edge, two points each from Oppenheim and Thomas gave the Devils a 10-7 advantage.
  • Wettstone kept the deficit at three (13-10) thanks to recording a couple of kills.
  • The group of Currie, Cusson, Oppenheim, Schner and Thomas continued to hold the Lions at bay 20-13.
  • However, the hosts did not go not away quietly with Miller and Ribon making it 21-17, prior to Fishbach, Oppenheim, Schner and Thomas finishing off the 25-17 victory.
