CARLISLE, Pa. - Junior running back
Dane Sorensen put up 213 total yards and scored four touchdowns to help the Dickinson football team score 34-straight points to erase an early 14-6 deficit and turn it into a 40-21 non-conference win over the visiting Lycoming College on Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field.
First Quarter
- The game began with a rather unique occurrence as the kickoff by Caleb Crawley was muffed by Elijah Jordan at the 18-yardline allowing Bryce Beltrante to fall on top of it. Ben Klassen opened the drive with a seven-yard keeper, before finding Frederik Fjeldseth for eight down to the LYCO3. On the next play, Sorensen would take it to the end zone on the ground. Unfortunately, a bobbled snap on the extra point kept the score at 6-0.
- After each team was held scoreless on their next possession, the visitors went to work at their own 49 with seven minutes left. Following a pass from Joe Lyons to Jared Zimmerman up to the DC36, he found Wesley Horsman in the center of the field for a 36-yard touchdown (Vasco Granitto kick).
Second Quarter
- The Warriors started the period with the ball at the DC27 in the midst of what was already an eight-play drive. Lyons linked up with Zimmerman for eleven, before handing the rock off to Spencer Ferguson who raced home for the score (Granitto kick).
- On the ensuing Devils drive, four Sorensen carries and a single by Jake Williams had the ball sitting on the LYCO34 for a first down. Klassen raced down to the LYCO26, prior to three consecutive runs for Williams resulting in a 14-yard TD carry (Hudson Reese kick).
- Lycoming would go three-and-out on the following possession with the big play being a seven-yard sack between Michael Martillotti and Will Ryan. That put the ball back in the Devils hands on their own 26. Three touches for Sorensen advanced the ball to the DC44. Short passes by Klassen to Keesean Campbell, Colin Sullivan and Braden White pushed the home side into visiting territory. A ten-yard completion to Kevin Schmidt set the stage for Klassen to connect with Sorensen for a 24-yard touchdown pass making it 19-14 (two point failed).
- Dickinson's defense once again stood tall allowing the offense to get it back on their own six with 97-seconds to play. Strikes of 14 and 23 to White along with a 19-yard toss to Liam Kallen pushed the good guys to the LYCO25. Following a holding penalty to move the ball back to the DC35, Klassen sprinted for 17 off the right side. Two plays later the Devils were back in the endzone with Klassen hitting Sorensen once again (Reese kick) (26-14).
Third Quarter
- Â Â The period saw the defenses on full display as the teams combined for five punts and no points.Â
Fourth Quarter
- Dickinson opened the final frame in the Lycoming red zone after Sorensen runs of 39, 12 and two. Williams carried down to the LYCO14, before a screen pass to Campbell set the Devils up on doorstep at the LYCO1. Klassen then turned and handed it off to Williams who plunged in from a yard out to take a 33-14 lead (Reese kick).
- Lycoming went three-and-out on the next drive to hand it back to the Red and White at their own 32. Over the next two plays Williams collected 17 yards on the ground. Then on first-and-ten at the DC49, Klassen dropped a 41-yard strike into the arms of Schmidt. Unfortunately, the next play saw the end of the drive as Klassen was picked off in the endzone.
- With just over four minutes left the Warriors had the ball on the LYCO15, that was when Sean Couvertiere decided to cut the possession short by stepping in the way of a Lyons pass and racing down to LYCO18. Klassen took off for three, before Sorensen carried the ball into the end zone for the 40-14 advantage (Reese kick).
- Lycoming closed out the scoring with a six-play drive ending with Jason Lajara finding Jordan in the end zone (Granitto kick).
