#9 Devils Come Up Just Short Against #23 Generals in Non-Conference Play

CARLISLE, Pa. - The ninth-ranked Dickinson field hockey team erased a 1-0 halftime deficit to the 23rd-ranked Washington and Lee University with a third quarter penalty stroke from Nicole Uebele. However, the visiting Generals got the eventual game-winning goal from Madeline Lancione with a little over ten minutes remaining to defeat the Devils by a final of 2-1 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Biddle Field Complex.

First Quarter
  • Dickinson was under pressure throughout the frame as Washington and Lee tallied the only four shots of the period as DC keeper Arden Cook was tasked with making a pair of stops to keep the score 0-0 after one.
Second Quarter
  • The Generals continued to keep the Devils at bay during the frame as they earned two penalty corners and recorded another four shots two of which were saved by Cook, while one from Anna Treese slipped beyond her reach to make it 1-0 going into the halftime break.
Third Quarter
  • Dickinson came out of the break with a renewed energy and spirit as they recorded their first shot at the 6:15 mark when Raegan Carty was shutdown by Helenka Chodakiewicz.
  • Following a corner put in by Ella Ledenko, both Erin Liggio and Alexandra Hockwitt had their opportunities turned aside by Chodakiewicz.
  • The pressure ultimately led to the hosts earning a penalty stroke for a foul in the attack circle. Uebele stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to tie the score at 1-1.
  • Each side would add one more attempt with both Zoe Dolfis and Hockwitt missing the mark.
Fourth Quarter
  • It took W&L just 27-seconds to attack the DC cage as Margaret Scheurer had a shot blocked down by the defense.
  • Three minutes later the Generals reclaimed the lead as Dolfis broke into the circle and put a pass right on the stick of Lancione who bested Cook to the 2-1 edge.
  • Gillian Rosenstock and Carty combined for three shots throughout the rest of the game, but none of them tested Chodakiewicz.
