(Carlisle, Pa.)- The Dickinson
College women's field hockey team suffered a heartbreaking, 3-2
overtime loss to visiting McDaniel on Tuesday afternoon. |
The Red Devils tied the game with 10 minutes to play to force
overtime, but senior Jessica Largent deflected a Katherine Jones
shot on a loose ball just over two minutes into the extra period to
give McDaniel the win.
The Devils struck first on a penalty corner
as Alyssa Sands (Copley, Ohio/Western Reserve
Academy) scored with assists from Claire
Mammen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor
Livingston) and Katelynn Bias
(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) just 5:41 into the
contest.
Amanda Pickard scored the first of two back-to-back goals, 4:33
into the second half to tie the game. She struck again on a penalty
corner with assists from Hope Battista and Kaitlin Boerman with
16:39 remaining in regulation.
The Devils pulled even as Lauren Kelly (Lititz,
Pa./Warwick)ripped a corner into the cage off an assist
from Leah Kaplan (Montclair,
N.J./Montclair) with exactly 10 minutes to play in
regulation.
Jones triggered a free-hit and followed the ball into the
circle. She picked up the loose ball in front of the cage and fired
a shot. Largent tipped the ball in for the game winner as McDaniel
improves to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Amanda West (Harleysville, Pa./North
Penn) made some amazing saves in the Red Devil goal.
She stopped 10 shots on the afternoon. Stephanie Thomson made three
saves for the Green Terror.
The Red Devils slip to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
They host Bryn Mawr College on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
