Defense Shines as Devils Remain Unbeaten With 21-3 Win

(Bethlehem, Pa.)- The Dickinson College football team improved to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Cetennial Conference with a 21-3 win at Moravian College.

 

Senior quarterback Ian Mitchell (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep) ran for 75 yards and two touchdowns. He broke the Centennial single season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, scoring his 11th of the year.

 

Mitchell threw for 124 yards, including five passes to Patrick O'Connor (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) for 57 yards. Joe Sandoe (Myerstown, Pa./Elco) made three catches for 44 yards, including a 25 yard touchdown from running back Tim Smith (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern).

 

Smith added 43 yards on the ground while Tim Wells (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) ran for 61 yards on 10 carries.

 

The Red Devil offensive line turned in another strong performance as the Devils allowed no sacks and had no interceptions, totaling 340 yards on the afternoon.

 

Most of Moravian's offense came from running back Ryan Rempe, who carried 37 times for 169 yards.

 

The Red Devil defense held its opponent to just a field-goal for the second time this season. They recorded five sacks on the day, including a pair from Adam Farrell (Parkton, Md./Hereford) and 1.5 from Pete Hamill (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West).

 

Pat McNeal (Glen Mills, Pa./Archmere) matched a game-high with 12 tackles while Kevin Wood (Westford, Mass./Phillips)added 10. Hamill added nine tackles as well.

 

Senior Michael Maxwell (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville)intercepted two passes, broke up two others and added seven tackles.

 

Mitchell scored on a six yard run in the opening quarter and Smith hit Sandoe for the 25 yard strike with 3:23 remaining in the second period. Ian Heck kicked a 26 yard field-goal to close out the half with the Devils in front, 14-3.

 

Mitchell dove in from three yards out midway through the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

 

The Red Devils return to Biddle Field next Saturday for Homecoming. They host the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins at 1:00 pm.
