(Carlisle, Pa.)- The Dickinson
College field hockey team battled right to the end but could not
net the equalizer as they fell to York College, 3-2, on Tuesday
afternoon. |
The Spartans struck first as Megan Spangler assisted Katie
Dawkins in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Katie Moore
(Chestertown, Md./St. Andrews) tied the game just
three minutes later, finishing a scramble in front of the Spartan
Cage.
Spangler wasted little time putting York back in front,
assisting Allison Roush just 48 seconds later with the game-winner.
Sandee Reich added an insurance goal with just 2:32 remaining to
give York a 3-1 advantage at halftime.
First-year Tanya Bellingham (Alexandria,
Va./Annandale) pulled the Devils within a goal at the
43:27 mark, scoring off an assist from classmate Laura
Hitchings (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin).
The Red Devils continued to challenge, forcing a pair of corners
in the final minutes. The Devils held the edge in shots, 23-11,
forcing Claire Rekitzke to make 16 saves on the afternoon.
Senior Amanda West (Harleysville, Pa./North
Penn) stopped five shots in goal for the Red
Devils.
The Red Devils return to Centennial Conference action on
Saturday, traveling to Swarthmore for a 12:00 start.
