(Carlisle, Pa.)- The Dickinson
College men's soccer team, ranked 12th in the nation by
D3soccer.com, knocked-off #3-ranked Swarthmore College, 1-0 in
overtime on Saturday. |
The win was the first over the Garnet in the tenure of head
coach Brian Redding, and the first for the Devils in nine meetings
as Swarthmore held a 5-0-3 mark going into the contest.
The teams played scoreless through regulation and into overtime.
The Devils drew a penalty kick when a Swarthmore defender was
forced to make a diving save in the Garnet net, which is an
automatic PK and results in a red card.
Junior Thomas Parkinson (Westfield,
N.J./Westfield) converted the penalty as the Devils
improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.
First-year Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel
Barlow) earned the start and the shutout, making six
saves on the afternoon. David D'Annunzio made six saves in goal for
Swarthmore (7-1,1-1).
The Red Devils travel to Muhlenberg on Wednesday to face the
Mules at 7:00 pm.
