Bullets Dodge Devils for 56-54 Win

(Carlisle, Pa,) - The Dickinson College women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss to rival Gettysburg on Wednesday night, falling to the Bullets, 56-54.

 

Gettysburg came out strong, opening the game with a 12-1 run in the first six minutes. The Devils rallied to tie the game, 17-17, with 5:36 remaining in the half. The Bullets outscored the Devils 10-7 to take a 27-24 lead at the break.

 

Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) hit a jumper, collected a rebound and converted a three-point play to give the Devils a 29-27 advantage to open the second half.

 

Gettysburg answered with seven straight points to pull in front 34-29. The Red Devils would counter again as well, taking a 45-43 lead with just under nine minutes to play in the game.

 

The game saw four ties and three lead changes in the final minutes. Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) tied the game with a pair of free throws at the 4:02 mark and Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) gave the Devils a 54-52 lead with a pair with 2:45 on the clock.

 

Junior Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) sank two free throws, and following a Devil turnover, scored on a rebound to put the Bullets in front, 56-54.

 

The Devils missed but were able to force a turnover with 18 seconds remaining for one last shot at the win. Borgese pulled a rebound on a Devils' missed shot but did not have time for another before time expired.

 

Dempsey finished with a game-high 16 points, controlling nine rebounds. She hit 4-of-7 shots from the floor and was perfect from the line at 8-for-8.

 

Sisco recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.Brooke Muller (Northampton, Pa./Whitehall) reached double-figures with 10 points and Belma Mekic (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) chipped in with eight points.

 

Moser led the Bullets (15-2, 10-2) with 16 points, six rebounds, two blocks and three steals.

 

The Red Devils slip to 12-5 overall and 8-5 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Haverford at 2:00 pm.
