(Carlisle, Pa.) - Unfortunately for the Dickinson College
women's field hockey team, a senior day coupled with beautiful fall
weather could not provide the spark they needed as the Red Devils
fell in Centennial Conference play against Haverford, 3-0.
Seniors Lizzie Boorse (Center Valley,
Pa./Southern Lehigh), Leah Kaplan
(Montclair, N.J./Montclair), and Laura Romano
(Norwalk, Conn./ Brien McMahon) were all honored, along
with their families, before the start of today's game.
The match between the two squads kept at a quick pace.
Alex Waleko tallied the first goal for Haverford, unassisted, at
just under the eight minute mark. The second goal for Haverford
came just a short four minutes later. Bryn Bissey struck
first as sophomore goalkeeper Ioni Kokdis
(Jefferson, N.J./Pope John XXII) saved the shot, but
Juliana Morgan-Trostle was right there to hit a strike directly
into the back of the cage.
Alex Waleko struck again for the final goal of the day, nine
minutes into the second half, coming off of a well-placed penalty
corner from Mary Hobbs. The Red Devils were poised to strike, and
did a fine job controlling play for the second half, but the
Haverford defense kept Dickinson's offense at bay.
Kokdis, in her fourth start, saved a total of six shots on the
day. Maggie Cronin and Sydney Hyder combined for three saves for
Haverford.
The Red Devils fall to 3-12 overall, and 2-6 in the CC as
Haverford improves to 11-4 overall, and 6-2 in the conference. The
Red Devils are set to host another conference matchup as they play
their final home game of the season against Gettysburg, Tuesday at
3:00.
