(Chestertown, Md.) - The Dickinson College field hockey team wrapped up the season Saturday afternoon against the Shorewomen of Washington College. Despite a solid effort on the part of the Red Devils, Washington came up with the win, 5-2. Washington improves 8-9 overall and 6-4 in the Centennial Conference.
Washington came on strong early in the game, scoring the first goal after just three and a half minutes ticked off of the clock. Gussie Reilly sped past the Devil defenders and put a shot high in the upper right corner of the cage. Emily Trees stepped up ten minutes later, shooting a rocket in the lower left corner, just past the waiting pads of sophomore goalkeeper Ioni Kokdis (Jefferson, N.J./Pope John XXIII).
Dickinson answered at the 26:49 mark as sophomore Marybeth McCarthy (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored on a loose ball to put the Devils on the board with the final goal of the half.
The second half repeated a similar pattern from the first. At 42:36 Kristen Wille struck first off a cross from teammate Melissa Rubacky. Less than three minutes later junior Lauren Kelly (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) placed a beautiful shot between the sticks of two defenders to net the second and final goal for Dickinson.
Wille came on the attack for her second goal at 56:49, scoring off of a penalty corner triggered by Sara Rutkowski. Gussie Reilly sealed the game at the 67:44 mark with the final goal, her second of the game.
Kokdis ended her day with a total of 14 saves while Shannon Davis stopped six shots for Washington.
The Red Devils wrap up their season with a final overall record of 3-14, and 2-8 in the CC.
