(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College men's soccer team
suffered a 1-0 setback to #16-ranked Johns Hopkins University here
on Saturday afternoon. The teams played even throughout the entire
match but an early goal led the Blue Jays to the win.
In a rematch of last year's Centennial Conference final and a
key midseason match-up, the Blue Jays struck early as Sean Coleman
slipped behind the defense and tallied the game's only goal just
12:08 into the contest.
That would prove to be all the scoring despite some strong
chances from both squads. The defenses for both the Devils and the
Blue Jays were the key as they allowed just a combined 10 shots on
goal. Ravi Gill made two saves for Hopkins while Cody
Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made eight saves in
net for Dickinson. Hopkins held a slight advantage in the opening
half, recording 11 of their 15 shots before the break. The Devils
held the Jays to just four shots in the second half.
Senior back Taylor Ferry
(Wyndmoor, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) turned in another
strong performance for the Red Devils while Mark Lyle
(Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) played well in the midfield.
The Blue Jays, ranked 16th-nationally, improve to
8-2-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the CC. The Red Devils slip to 7-3-2 and
2-2-1 in conference play. Dickinson is home again on Wednesday,
hosting the University of Scranton at 5:00 pm.
