(Carlisle, Pa.)  The Dickinson College women's field hockey team started off strong, scoring the game's first goal, but could not hold on as they fell to Swarthmore College, 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devil offense controlled the field for most of the first half. Sophomore Tanya Bellingham (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) scored the only goal of the day for the Devils. The goal was off of a penalty stroke late in the first half with just under three minutes to play.

Following halftime the Garnet quickly regained their composure and answered with a goal from Aarti Rao in the 46th minute. The score came off of a quick tap by Allison Ranshous from a penalty corner taken by Sophia Ferguson. Nia Jones then scored an unassisted goal at 58:17 to put the Garnet on top, 2-1.

Sophomore Laura Hitchings (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) and senior Laura Romano (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) were key players on defense, each recording a defensive save. First-year goalkeeper Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) had another solid showing, saving five shots on the day.

Katie Ashmore made seven saves as Swarthmore improves to 2-2 in the Centennial Conference and 5-6 overall.

Dickinson falls to 1-3 in the CC and 2-9 overall. On Wednesday the Red Devils will travel to Westminster, Maryland face McDaniel College at 7:00 pm.
