Dickinson College women's basketball team advanced to the
semifinals of the Centennial Conference playoffs, rolling past
Johns Hopkins 64-44 on Wednesday night. |
Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair
Academy) was a dominant force inside, scoring a
game-high 25 points, controlling 13 rebounds and forcing seven
steals on the night. She hit 9-of-14 shots from the field and
7-of-9 from the line.
Her seven steals is a Centennial Conference playoff game record.
She replaces a tie of six between JHU's Karen Hoffman from 1995 and
Dickinson's Gretchen Muller in 1994.
Senior guard Brooke Muller (Northampton,
Pa./Whitehall)turned in a strong performance as well with
16 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Junior Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston
Churchill) added eight points, five rebounds and a
steal.
Hopkins opened the game with a three-pointer but the Devils
answered as Muller was fouled on a lay-up and added the free
throw.
The game was back and forth for the first 10 minutes. The Devils
slowly began to build a 13-point lead as they approached the end of
the half, taking a 32-19 advantage at the break.
The Blue Jays were within seven at the 14:34 mark before a 15-3
put Dickinson in front by 19, 51-32, with just under 10 minutes
remaining in the game.
The Devils would remain in control the rest of the way,
stretching the lead to as many as 21 down the stretch.
The Red Devils top the Blue Jays for the third time this season,
including twice in Baltimore. The Devils improve to 17-8 overall.
Johns Hopkins falls to 15-10. Brittany Lonesome led the Blue Jays
with 12 points.
Dickinson will travel to Allentown on Saturday, to face the
top-seed, Muhlenberg College, at 2:00 pm. #2-seed Gettysburg will
face #3-McDaniel at 4:00 pm. The championship game is set for 2:00
pm on Sunday.
