(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College field hockey team played
a solid second half, but could not overcome a strong start by
#20-ranked Juniata. The Eagles scored four first-half goals en
route to a 4-1 win here on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior forward Paula Price Recorded a natural hat-trick, scoring
three goals in a span of just under five minutes to lead the way
for the Eagles.
Shauna Deschenes put Juniata on the board in the 14th minute,
scoring off an assist from Kim Amrod. Amrod then fed Price on the
game-winner at the 21:17 mark before Deschenes tallied assists on
Price's next two goals.
The Red Devils tightened the defense in the second half, holding
Juniata to just seven shots after allowing 18 in the first 35
minutes. The Devils also turned up the pressure offensively after
the break.
Senior Lizzie Boorse
(Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) collected her own
rebound on a break-away and put Dickinson on the board in the 64th
minute to spoil the shutout.
Sophomore Laura
Hitchings (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) turned
in a strong performance, making a defensive save in the first half,
and stopping a big fast-break opportunity for Juniata in the
second.
Senior Laura Romano
(Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahaon) also played well
defensively. She broke up a fast break in the second half as well
as the Devils held the Eagles scoreless for the final 44
minutes.
First-year goaltender Katy
Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends)
made 14 saves on the day, stopping nine shots in the first
half.
Moira Nugent and Janelle Howard each made two saves in goal for
Juniata (5-3).
The Red Devils slip to 1-5 overall. They travel to #4-ranked
Ursinus College on Saturday for a 12:00 start.
