(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College field hockey team played well despite missing two starters to injury, but suffered a 4-0 loss to visiting Washington College on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore goaltender Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) turned in another outstanding performance in goal, turning away 14 shots on the day.
Gabby Tarbert put Washington on the board, scoring off a rebounded shot by Kristen Wille, a little over eight minutes into the game. The Shorewomen stretched the lead to 2-0 in a span of just 2:45 as first-year Claire McAuliffe lofted a shot into the cage with 23:48 remaining in the half.
Wille drove into the circle and tallied an unassisted goal with 16:02 on the clock to put Washington in front, 3-0, at halftime. Junior Hilary Manion tallied her eighth goal of the season in the 44th minute to close out the scoring.
The Red Devils battled to the end, forcing 17 corners, including five in the final minutes as they tried to spoil the shutout effort. Stephanie Harryman did secure the shutout, stopping 10 shots on the day.
Washington held a 28-20 advantage in shots, forcing 12 corners on the afternoon. They improve to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Shorewomen have won eight straight games, scoring at least four goals in their last four outings.
The Red Devils slip to 4-9 and 1-6 on the year. They travel to Baltimore on Wednesday to face Johns Hopkins at 4:00 pm.
