Red Devils Challenge 11th-Ranked Bears, Fall 2-0

(Carlisle, Pa.) –The Dickinson College women's field hockey team gave #11-ranked Ursinus all it could handle on Saturday, despite suffering a 2-0 setback to one the Centennial Conference's most dominant programs.

 

The Bears found the back of the cage twice in the first half. Corinne Freeman led the way, dishing out an assist to Rachel Pandl in the 11th minute and adding an unassisted goal of her own with 18:47 remaining in the half.

 

Other than the final score, the Devils held the advantage, outshooting the Bears 23-16, and holding a significant edge in penalty corners, 17-8. Senior goaltender Jill Lukens was up to the task for Ursinus, turning away 14 shots on the afternoon.

 

Sophomore Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) made six saves in goal for the Red Devils. Junior Laura Hitchings (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) turned in another strong performance, adding her fifth defensive save of the season.

 

The 11th-ranked Bears improve to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the conference. Dickinson slips to 4-11 and 1-8 in the CC. The Red Devils are home again on Wednesday, hosting another nationally-ranked team as #20- Juniata College comes to Carlisle for a 3:00 start.
