(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College field hockey team played well on Wednesday, but suffered a 2-1 loss to visiting McDaniel College.
The Green Terror struck first as Natalie Price collected rebound off a shot by Lindsay Riordon just over 12 minutes into the game. The Red Devils answered to tie the game in the 21st minute. Sophomore Lauren Wyman (Akron, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) redirected a shot by senior Katie Mersky (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) into the cage to pull the Devils even.
The teams played even throughout the second half with the Devils controlling play in the opening minutes following the break. The Green Terror broke through for another score with 9:30 remaining in regulation. Junior Paige Messersmith made a strong play in the circle to score the eventual game-winner.
McDaniel held the advantage in shots, 30-20, while each team forced 13 penalty corners on the afternoon. Sophomore goaltender Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) played an outstanding game in goal, matching a season-high with 15 saves.
Stephanie Thomson made nine saves in goal for McDaniel as the Green Terror improved to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils slip to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the conference. They travel to Bryn Mawr College on Friday for a 4:30 pm start.
