Red Devils Turn Back Crusaders 19-10

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team turned in a strong second half, outscoring visiting Susquehanna University, 12-5, en route to a 19-10 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

 

The Red Devils struck quick and jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the midpoint of the first half behind three goals from sophomore Kara Glazer (Towson, Md./Towson). Susquehanna tallied back-to-back goals to trigger a 4-1 run to tie the game, 5-5, with 4:23 remaining in the first half.

 

Sophomore Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) dished out assists to first-year Lindsay Edgerley (Germantown, Md./Connelly School of the Holy Child) and classmate Katie Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's, Del.) to close out the scoring with the Devils in front, 7-5.

 

First-year Lauren Jonas (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) struck twice in a span of 44 seconds and junior Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) added a goal to start the second half, stretching the Dickinson lead to 10-6. That triggered a 6-1 run that put the Devils up, 13-6, with 15:39 remaining.

 

Susquehanna scored at the six minute mark to break up the run, but the Devils answered with three straight as first-year Tomi Beightol (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) scored and then assisted Colby Mello (Westport, Conn./Staples) around the fourth goal of the day from senior Kelsey Muir (Glen Mills, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame).

 

That stretched the Devil advantage to double-figures. The Crusaders closed out the game, sandwiching a pair of goals around a final tally from Lucy West (Bethesda, Md./Holton-Arms) in the final 42 seconds.

 

Muir returned to solid form with four goals, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers on the day. Overall, 11 Red Devils found the net. Jonas and Glazer each finished with three goals Abbassian and Manoli each recorded two goals and two assists.

 

Senior Sunnie Ko (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) controlled four draws, four ground balls and caused two turnovers. First-year Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) controlled a game-high six GBs while Maggie Peeke (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) added four GBs and two caused turnovers. Senior Jessie Clark (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) turned in a strong performance in goal with six saves.

 

Emily Stankaitis stopped 19 shots for Susquehanna (0-2) while Lindsey Derstine led the attack with four goals.

 

The Red Devils (2-1) travel to Stevenson University on Saturday for a 1:00 start.
